For the 4th time running the Monarchs finished runners up in the final round of the Spring Cup,whilst the Wednesfield Aces A team took victory on the day and overall winners of the tournament.

With just a single point lead for the Aces it turned into a 2 team battle for the title. There was little between both clubs throughout the first half with the Monarchs a point behind on 36 at the interval stage.

With the Aces taking a maximum in heat 13 to pull further ahead the home club suffered an exclusion for groves in heat 14, the Aces taking their next 2 heats by maximum points to bang home that advantage.

Two further drawn heats ensured that victory on the day was beyond the Birmingham club with the Aces taking a final race heat advantage to win by 6 on the day.

The Wednesfield B team had their moments to finish 3rd whilst 3rd round winners East Park were completely outclassed despite a spirited effort.

WEDNESFIELD A 74, BIRMINGHAM 68 – Ewan Hancox 18, Ricki Johnson 17+2, Mark Winwood 15+2, Nathan Groves 11+2, Paul Timms 7+1. Wednesfield B 54, East Park 39.

The 1st round of the YJL (youth junior league) took place in Leicester with a good turn out of mini Monarchs. Newcomer Charlie Buet Gannon impressed in his first competition in the U10’s scoring 14 points and going direct to the A final where he finished 4th.

In the U12’s Connor Steel joint top scored to go direct to the A final where he finished 2nd. Dylan Hawtin also made the final, and came in 4th place. Rebekah Humphries came 2nd in the B final.

3 Monarchs riders took part in the U18’s. Ewan Hancox was unbeaten in the qualifiers but came in 3rd in the A final. William Arkinstall started with a race victory and made the B final with a 4th place finish. Jake Steel came 2nd in the C final.

Hancox finished 5th in the Welsh U19 championship , a costly exclusion costing him a rostrum placing, whilst Jake Steel scored 5 points.

The Monarchs start their Midland League programme with a visit from East Park on Sunday at the Perry Hall circuit. Actions starts at 1PM

Training every Tuesday and Thursday from 4th April with a British Cycling approved coach.
