M6 Success for Monarch Mark

Birmingham Monarchs senior rider MARK WINWOOD took victory in the opening round of the 4 round M6 trophy competition at East Park Wolverhampton on Saturday.

Sutton Coldfield based Winwood qualified for the final where he beat fellow Monarch rider Nathan Groves who after impressing in the heats fell in the final.

Although the U14’s was won by a local youngster , Marc Phipps came 2nd whilst Billy Winwood took 3rd.

All the points over the 4 round series count towards the title, won in its first season last year by Winwood senior.

This Sunday (24th) we face the Wednesfield Dragons in Midland League action. The Dragons have a young and talented side coupled with the experienced Chris Jewkes they will be a handful with a tough match in store. Start time 2PM

The Monarchs have injury worries over club number one Chris Timms who suffered a knee injury last week. A further hospital visit will be required this week to ensure there is no damage but at present he is struggling to walk on it.

The Monarchs will have captain Scott Millward and Ricki Johnson leading the side whilst Winwood and Groves will be expected to score heavily whilst young Ewan Hancox continues to push for 1st team status.

This Saturday (23rd) sees the Veteran Monarchs travel to newly reformed Stoke for the opening round of the 9 round Eurovets Series.

Reigning 40’s and 50’s champions Winwood and Hodgkinson will be looking to start the new year with a strong defence of their titles whilst multi champion Paul Timms is always a threat and is very much in form.

This Saturday also sees round 2 of the BYJL this time held at the East Park venue.

Training sessions continue every Tuesday (seniors) and Thursdays (juniors) 6-8PM, all abilities welcome.
