Johnson At The Double

Monarchs new recruit made it two titles in as many days as Ricki Johnson took the Under 19 and Senior titles.

A big thanks should be given to all the helpers and volunteers from the Midlands League who helped organise and run the event once more at Ryton On Dunsmore.

In the over 40’s event Steve Hodgkinson and Mark Winwood took to the track in the red and white though the absence of Paul Timms was telling as the Over 50’s Eurovet champion was on the sidelines with ligament trouble.

Winwood made the podium just behind Mark Whitehead of Leicester and Poole and England international Steve Harris.

In the Under 19 final Ricki Johnson and Jake Read were the cream of the crop as they finished level on points. In the run off Johnson pipped the Stockport rider to claim the title with fellow Stockport rider Matt Lush picking up the bronze place.

In the Senior final it went right down to the final heat as the top three riders were level on points. Ricki Johnson made a flyer from the inside grid to make it a weekend to remember ahead of Wednesfield Aces charger Lee Aris and Birmingham skipper Chris Timms finishing third.

The team event saw Birmingham Monarchs finish in fourth place as local neighbours Wednesfield Aces took the title ahead of East Park and Sheffield.
