The young Monarchs took victory in Coventry today with a last race victory by Ewan Hancox to seal the win that was well earned.
The Devlins started the strongest, a 6-4 in Heat 2 whilst heats 4 & 5 went the way of maximums to take control 28-22.
The next 3 heats all won by Coventry riders but all those heats were drawn with Monarchs pairings following those heat winners.
The next 2 heats went the Monarchs way – Hancox doing all the hard work in heat 9 with Emily Pitt having gated to take the win.
Heat 10 saw a fighting win for Billy Winwood keeping Sammi Marsh behind, Marc Phipps taking a 3rd after Bailie Phillips took a tumble after clashing with Phipps.
That gave the Monarchs a one point edge 49-50.
The next 2 heats saw both teams taking one maximum each to keep that one point gap going into the final heat.
Both teams nominated their top 2 scorers to set up a last race showdown and no doubt both team managers set instructions to gain an advantage.
For Hancox the message was clear – gate and win and too his credit beat the undefeated Charlie Barnett to secure the win.
An afternoon of good racing, with evenly matched kids (Natalie Timms an honourary kid for the day ) and a last race decider to add to the days excitement.
We wish Connor Steel well who has been unwell for a couple of days and was unable to make the trip.
Credit goes to Joe Mclaughlin and his team for getting the track ready for racing with it having heavy wet patches on arrival.
