Monarchs Face Leaders: Weekend Preview

Birmingham are back in Elite League action this weekend also back home as they face Poole in Birmingham. The Monarchs will be facing the league leaders at Perry Park due to fears of the suitability of Sandwell as the Lower City Road track looks to have sadly locked the gates for the last time during the Eurovets.

Birmingham will be looking to carry on the morale boosting performance at Sheffield last time out in the Elite League. Though the second city lost at The Graves they were ahead at the interval and also just came up short at the end as it was more of a team performance.

Chris Timms will spearhead the home side with Winwood and Groves also looking to carry on the good form in the red and white. Myke Grimes impressed at Sheffield and it remains to be seen if the Coventry based rider will be in the lineup. David Ball has been battling all season and deserves more recognition for his gutsy and never giving up riding.

Last year Birmingham put the Dorset opponents to the sword winning 92-87 as Paul Heard claimed a maximum as Marcus Wadhams, Dominic Rycharski and Chris Timms all gave good backup. Poole came up with three Polish riders themselves but came up short as Gluchowski, Glanczarek and Szymanski all looked dangerous. This season they have Steve Harris in the ranks as well as Tom Reed and Leyton Glover who both look to have great futures in the sport.

Poole won earlier in the year 106-71 at Baiter Park and the seasiders look set to take the Elite title this season so no doubt Birmingham will find the going tough this weekend.
