This weekend sees a big event going on over at the Millennium Stadium but not to far down the road the veterans of Cycle Speedway limber up for their own tough individual meeting.
The ORCHID Eurovets moves to Larch Grove and East Newport for the third round of the series and Birmingham’s Paul Timms will be looking to carry on the battle with Joe McLaughlin. Timms is locked at the top of the championship with the Coventry rival after two tough rounds at Leicester and Newcastle.
Steve Hodgkinson will also be riding at the principality as Hodgkinson has been steadily improving in the series and looks set to carry that on at Newport’s small track.
Sunday sees a busy day for Monarchs secondary riders as regional league action carries on in June and riders and teams will be hoping the summer starts!
Newport travel to Swindon in the South/South West Division as the Welsh side still look hot favourites for the title this season. In the South East League Hethersett take on Norwich at Harford Park as the Hawks will look to win with Norfolk Champion Ollie Riley in their ranks.
Bury Comets face Stockport at Goshen Sports Centre in what looks like being a tough meeting as the top two in the division go head to head. East Park face Leicester in the Midland League with David Ball in their squad. The Hickman Avenue outfit have lost just once this season whilst Leicester have just ridden once so far this season. Finally Coventry take on Wednesfield Dragons on Sunday as Monarchs secondary riders Myke Grimes and Konrad Pietek will be in contention for the Hearsall Common side.
