This weekend saw the second round of the ORCHID Eurovets Series as the riders travelled up to Cramlington to take to the shale of Newcastle and the recently reformed Northumbrian side.
In the Over 40’s Steve Hodgkinson finished with ten points and made it to the B Final where Wednesfield’s Dave Meanley won ahead of Venson, Knowles and Steve.
Steve and Paul then took their place in the Over 50’s/60’s where in total 13 riders looked to do battle and finish on top of the rostrum.
Timms finished unbeaten with a 20 point max going through the card at the North East track. Simon Woodroof and Coventry’s Joe McLaughlin were just behind the Birmingham man. In the A Final Paul got the win which he deserved after his performance in the qualifying heats ahead of Simon, Joe and Terry Pickup. Hodgkinson made it into the B Final once more and this time came out on top winning ahead of Hemming and Patterson.
After two rounds in the Over 50’s Paul and Joe are now locked at the top with 45pts apiece. Steve after his strong riding has moved up to 5th in the table and both riders deserve great credit doing well at a track neither had seen let alone ride before the weekend.
The next round of the series is not till 1st June when it moves to East Newport.
Up at Redbraes Rec Edinburgh hosted the Northern KOC. The home side had tough competition in the form of Heckmondwike who had Idziorek in the ranks, Stockport with Jake Read and also Bury who had Monarchs Chris Parrish in the side.
It turned into a two horse race between the Scottish Falcons and Stockport and Edinburgh came out on top to lift the trophy. Parrish’s Bury finished third on 30pts as Chris claimed 11pts including a fine win in Heat 15.
