This weekend saw most of the Birmingham riders racing around the country as well as outside of it with the leagues in full swing and various competitions beginning.
On Saturday Steve Hodgkinson and Paul Timms both reached the Over 40 B Final finishing just behind Coventry’s Dave Frith.
Sunday saw the Monarchs travel across the midlands to take on Coventry in a challenge fixture. As reported Birmingham just missed out on a win by one point as skipper Nathan Groves and rider/manager Mark Winwood both came away top scorers for the red and white as Joe Kemp made a great contribution at number 8.
Groves was captain as Chris Timms was over in Poland riding for LKS Astromal-Szawer Leszno. Chris had a familiar face in his side of the pits as Ben Mould was also making an appearance in the Polish league. In a tight contest Leszno just missed out 80-78 to Torun. Timms reported he was gutted to have not scored more though conditions were far from ideal as he picked up 6+1.
Newport once again blew away the competition in the South West League. This time Exeter were put to the sword as the Welsh side ran out 100-79 winners. Evans and Jones once more piled in the points picking up 22 between them as they look hot favourites to win the league title.
Saturday welcomed the opening round of the Women’s League and Natalie Timms took part in the event. It was Natalie’s first official meeting since giving birth earlier in the year and she was very pleased with her performance as her side Wednesfield Aces finished 4th out of the 6 sides in Division Two.
