This weekend Birmingham had a break from league action but that did not stop some of the squad getting onto the shale.
Saturday saw the Dash Trophies at Wednesfield in which Scott Millward and Chris Timms were flying the flag for Birmingham. In awful conditions with the track very heavy from the wet weather it was a gruelling day of racing but both riders made it into the final as notable riders like Steve Harris and Craig Marchant failed to make the cut.
In the final Ben Mould took the spoils in a run off with fellow Aces rider Lee Aris. Defending champ Lukasz Nowacki pipped Andy Angell to the third spot. Timms had a good final until a controversial heat with Lee Aris saw the home rider escape a exclusion after ramming the Monarchs captain.
On Sunday Chris Parish was in action for his regional side Bury as they made the short trip to Astley & Tydesley. Bury made light work of the home side who missed a couple of key Polish riders as Parrish top scored for the Comets with 20 points as they won 97-51.
Mark Winwood made his return from his ban at Hearsall Common and looked like he has not had a break! Winwood was banned after a altercation in an Elite League meeting at Poole last year and so missed the tail end of the season and Birmingham’s challenge meeting and first Midland fixture. Wearing the Coventry strip Mark claimed 16 points as they swept East London aside winning 102-72.
